About Us

Cotton and Twirls, LLC was founded in 2020 by owner and creator Mandy Nelson. A former neuroscientist turned stay-at-home mom, Mandy began her sewing journey at a tiny kitchen table in her Boston apartment, working on a vintage Pfaff Stretch & Jean from the ’90s. One machine quickly became three, and she soon realized that her love of sewing went far beyond the finished garments. She is a self-taught fabric designer whose collections reflect her creative mind—sometimes bold, sometimes chaotic, always heartfelt.

When she isn’t designing, Mandy loves spending time with her husband and three children. She devours raunchy fantasy-romance books (recommendations always welcome!), rewatches Harry Potter, Star Wars, and The Lord of the Rings at least once a month, and happily accepts daily compliments from her husband about her cooking skills.
